Sophie Thorpe

Contemporary Dance

Sophie Thorpe trained at the London Contemporary Dance School and the Northern School of Contemporary Dance.

She has performed at the Royal Opera House on the Swan Lake Reimagined Tour, and at the Glyndebourne Opera in The Cunning Little Vixen. She has also performed with the Tom Dale Company at the Nottingham Playhouse.

Sophie has been teaching for over five years with a range of ages and abilities. She taught students at the London Contemporary Dance School, Laban and Balletboyz. She also trained students at the Centre for Advanced Training at The Place, London.

As an experienced contemporary dance instructor, her classes are playful and invigorating. They are release based and include elements of floor work and improvisation. Each class consists of technical set exercises, improvisation tasks, travelling sequences and dynamic phrases. Students are encouraged to explore efficiency in movement through the use of momentum and weight as well as finding ease, fluidity and power in the body.
