Tyler Smith is a Canadian-born performer, vocal coach, composer and musical theatre tutor based in London. He teaches songwriting for musical theatre, alongside recording, mixing and mastering using Logic Pro X.

Bio

Tyler studied Musical Theatre Performance at MacEwan University in Canada before completing an MA in Musical Theatre with distinction at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. In 2014, he was selected as one of the top 12 finalists for the Stephen Sondheim Society Student Performer of the Year. His performance experience includes appearing alongside artists such as Natalie Weiss, Ben Folds and the Canadian Tenors, as well as performing on stages across Canada, including Stage West Calgary and The Victoria Playhouse in Ontario.

 

Alongside performing, Tyler works as a composer and lyricist. He co-wrote the new musical God Catcher, which premiered at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2023, and How Not To Kill A Plant, which premiered at the Edmonton Fringe Festival in 2024. His other writing credits include composition and co-lyrics for Immigration Crisis, The Musical, which was workshopped in Glasgow in 2024 and 2025.

 

Tyler has more than 10 years of experience as a singing teacher and vocal coach. He teaches from his own studio, TM Vocalists, in West Hampstead, and has also taught at Guildford School of Acting and The Rhythm Studio in London, alongside teaching work with Urdang at City St George’s, University of London.

 

As a teacher, Tyler’s aim is to help every student develop their own distinctive creative voice and find what he describes as their unique “TradeMark Sound”. His sessions combine practical technique, creativity and industry insight to help students grow in confidence across performance, songwriting and music production.
