Level 4 Diploma Introduction to Dance Teaching

We are excited to announce a collaboration between City Academy and bbodance! This unique opportunity will combine professional ballet training with dance teacher training, providing you with the best preparation for a successful career in dance. 

All students enrolled in the one-year professional ballet training course can simultaneously study the bbodance Level 4 Diploma Introduction to Dance Teaching course. This allows you to gain your introductory dance teaching qualification whilst training for a professional dance career. 

The bbodance Level 4 Diploma Introduction to Dance Teaching course is delivered mainly online and requires approximately 20 hours of study per week. 

City Academy will support your study as follows:

  • Entry onto the bbodance Level 4 Diploma Introduction to Dance Teaching via your City Academy application (subject to any requirements from bbodance).
  • Dedicated weekly studio time to support your online study.
  • Access to our evening and intensive courses to complete your teaching observations and teaching practice assessment.
  • Dedicated time to attend a studio-based Training Day run by bbodance.

What is this course?

The bbodance Level 4 Diploma Introduction to Dance Teaching is a foundational teacher training course that equips students with the knowledge and skills to begin a career in dance teaching. This diploma focuses on: developing your knowledge of teaching principles and core teaching skills; your knowledge and application of safe dance teaching practices; an understanding of dance teaching as a business, and how to apply these in real-life settings.

Successful completion of this introductory course makes you eligible to progress to the bbodance Level 4 Diploma in Dance Teaching Practice, which leads to full qualification as a dance teacher!

Course Overview

Provides foundational knowledge for aspiring dance teachers, regardless of the dance genre or syllabus they teach.

Core modules include: observing teaching; learning and teaching principles and strategies; business and career development; and safe dance teaching practices.

Online sessions are scheduled on selected Sundays from February to August. Students are also required to attend one full day onsite, organised by bbodance.

Successful completion makes you eligible for the Level 4 Diploma in Dance Teaching Practice, leading to qualification as a dance teacher.

The qualification is suitable for experienced dance teaching assistants looking to become teachers, novice teachers, or those with some teaching experience who need foundational knowledge.

The qualification is recognised by Ofqual and Qualification Wales.

Students gain free access to the bbodance Teaching Qualifications online learning site as well as the bbodance Members’ Area, including syllabus resources and teaching aids.

Career Path

The bbodance Level 4 Diploma Introduction to Dance Teaching is the first step in a pathway that leads to qualification as a dance teacher. Once fully qualified, teachers can become a Registered Teacher with bbodance and join a global family of passionate dance teachers. They can teach syllabi, enter students for exams, or even progress to the Licentiate qualification to specialise in a specific syllabus genre! Qualified teachers can open their own dance schools or work on a freelance basis, teaching dance in the private, vocational, community and public sectors.
