Alan began writing Young Adult fiction inspired by his reading as a publishing copywriter at Walker Books, where he worked for many years. Having children of his own was the inspiration for his picture books and young fiction.

He is now an award-winning author of one hundred books for children of all ages – from picture books to young adult thrillers. He writes poetry and prose across many different genres. His bestselling titles include Burger Boy, Always and Forever, Dear Tooth Fairy, Game Boy, and Blood.

His teaching style is based on his own writing experience, sharing techniques and strategies that have worked for him over the years.
