Jon Barton

Jon Barton heads up our writing department and has been teaching writing courses for City Academy since 2013.

He studied Creative Writing at the University of Exeter and holds an MA in Playwriting and Script Development. Working as a freelance writer and Writing Tutor, he has ten years of extensive experience across Theatre, Film and Television.

His work has been produced at The Old Vic Theatre, the Royal Court, The Bush Theatre, The Almeida and High Tide Festival Theatre, and he currently writes Holby City for the BBC. Jon has also received development funding from the BFI and Creative England, and reads work for Kudos Television, Hat Trick and BBC.

Jon is passionate about his craft and keen to enable as many writers as possible. He sees the writing department as a safe space to share ideas with like-minded people and explore approaches to storytelling.
