Outdoor Observation Draw from the streets of London, observing people, food, buildings and city scenes to build a personal sketchbook. Portrait and Life Drawing Improve observation skills through self-portrait exercises and a dedicated life drawing session. Final Artwork and Exhibition Bring your skills together in a final drawing, painting or collage, with work displayed in an evening exhibition. This gives you a helpful overview of how the course is structured, including the different techniques, materials and creative activities you may explore across the programme. Day 1 On our first day we will go back to basics focusing on pencil, charcoal and graphite drawing. Whether you are learning for the first time or refreshing your skills, this will be a fun and explorative start to the course. Day 2 We'll develop more drawing skills, learning to make objects appear three-dimensional using light, shade and tone. We will also touch on perspective and other vital skills in preparation for drawing outside Day 3 On our third day it's time to venture out into the vibrant streets of London (weather permitting). You will learn to observe and draw what's around you, drawing people, food and buildings. Throughout the day you will be creating a travel journal and personal storyboard of the area. There will be an optional visit to one of the terrific art materials shops nearby. Day 4 Continuing to build on the power of observation, day four will start with a self-portrait exercise. In the afternoon there will be a life drawing session. Day 5 For the last day you will bring together all the skills you have developed throughout the week and create a drawing, painting or collage. To celebrate the art you have created throughout the week, there will be an exhibition in the evening for family and friends, with your work on display. NB: Please note that the schedule is subject to change depending on the group of students and their needs as well as weather cirumstances. Your Exhibition The week will culminate in a private exhibition of your and your fellow student's work. Family and friends will be invited to visit and celebrate your art.
