This art course is a unique opportunity to capture a range of subjects in a variety of mediums, our short course provides you with the tools and techniques to develop your drawing and painting skills. You will learn about and take influence from art history and contemporary art references. Absolute beginners are welcome, and those who want to brush up on their drawing and painting skills. London is steeped in art and architecture to be explored, captured and replicated. You will spend time in the studio honing your skills under the guidance of our professional art tutors and explore the vibrant streets of London, sketchbook in hand. Exercise your ability to capture people, places, architecture and food using everything from pencil, pastels, watercolour and more. City Academy's art studio has everything you need to get creative. Painting Techniques Explore painting approaches that help you build colour confidence, texture and expressive surface detail. Mixed Materials Experiment with different materials and tools, discovering how each can shape your creative ideas. Composition and Form Learn how to structure your artwork using composition, balance, shape and form. Creative Experimentation Try different approaches to making art, helping you loosen up, test ideas and develop your visual confidence. Personal Artwork Bring your skills together through individual creative pieces that reflect your ideas, interests and developing style. Art and drawing summer school example schedule You can view an example schedule for our Art and Drawing Summer School below. This gives you a helpful overview of how the course is structured, including the different techniques, materials and creative activities you may explore across the programme. Day 1 On day one you will get back to basics using pencil, charcoal and graphite to explore simple drawing skills and techniques that are a fun and expressive start to the course, focusing on shapes and structure. Day 2 Develop and expand on your newly found drawing skills by earning to make objects appear three-dimensional using light, shade and tone. In preparation for drawing outside, you’ll work on perspective and other techniques related to capturing architecture. Day 3 Explore one of Europe’s most exciting cities for art and architecture by taking your newly found skills onto the vibrant streets of London. Under the guidance of your tutors, you will learn to observe and draw people, food and buildings. Get creative with a personal storyboard of your own journey. There will be an optional visit to an art materials shop should you need to top up any personal supplies. Day 4 Build on your newly found observational skills by taking a long hard look at yourself - with a self-portrait exercise! Later in the day, a life model will join the group and you will learn how to draw and paint the human form in a life drawing session. Day 5 On the final day of the course, all your newly developed skills will come together as you create a drawing and painting collage. Celebrate all the art you have created throughout the week with friends and family as part of an end of course exhibition. For the last day you will bring together all the skills you have developed throughout the week and create a drawing, painting or collage. To celebrate the art you have created throughout the week, there will be an exhibition in the evening for family and friends, with your work on display. NB: Please note that the schedule is subject to change depending on the group of students and their needs as well as weather circumstances. Your Exhibition The week will culminate in a private exhibition of your and your fellow student's work. Family and friends will be invited to visit and celebrate your art.
