City Academy Songbirds

Sing your heart out, Queen. City Academy’s Songbirds Choir is our longest-running and only all-female choir - a powerhouse of music, community, and performance. With a repertoire spanning Pop, Gospel, Musical Theatre, Folk, Acappella, and Classical, this choir celebrates female voices and empowers singers to shine both on and off the stage.

Led by Musical Director Katherine Hare, Songbirds offers the chance to rehearse weekly, perform to audiences of up to 400, and take the spotlight with solo opportunities accompanied by a professional band. Members also benefit from an active social network of strong, like-minded women, making Songbirds a choir that’s as much about community as it is about music.

Over the years, Songbirds has enjoyed the limelight with high-profile performances - from sharing the stage with Dionne Warwick, to appearances on The X Factor (ITV) and Pitch Battle (BBC). They were also recently recognised with a special commendation from the UK Choir Festival.

Useful information

The choir is open to female-identifying singers with a soprano or alto vocal range who are passionate about singing in a group.

There’s no formal audition. During your taster, the Musical Director may do a short, informal vocal test to check your range and assess your suitability.

The repertoire spans Pop, Musical Theatre, Gospel, Folk, Acappella, and Classical, with a particular focus on empowering, dynamic songs.

Some previous singing experience is helpful, but you don’t need to be a professional. Songbirds is designed for singers who want to improve their technique, perform, and enjoy being part of a choir.

We understand life gets busy – you don’t need to attend every single rehearsal. However, regular attendance is expected, especially in the weeks leading up to a concert, to ensure strong ensemble performances.
